Organic herb spiral

A number of Mediterranean, regional and Asian herbs and spices are used daily to give our dishes the perfect taste.

Immediately after being picked, our herbs are dried for use in the winter months as well.

Things to know about the herb spiral garden

Since our organic herbs originate from different regions and climates they also have different soil, temperature, and humidity requirements. The herb spiral is a great way of fulfilling all these distinct requirements in the smallest possible space.

The stones used for the spiral collect the sun’s warmth and gradually pass it on to the plants. At the bottom of the herb spiral is a mini pond that also reflects and stores heat. This way, night frosts of as low as –5° C does not affect the herbs.

By adding sand to the upper part of the spiral, and manure to the lower part, there is a natural gradient between sandy soils low in nutrients, and rich clay soils below. Mediterranean plants therefore grow best at the top of the spiral, while herbs from cooler, more humid regions grow best at the bottom.

By offering such different environmental conditions, the herb spiral garden is attractive to a number of animals too. For example, useful animals for the garden live there, such as numerous insects, lizards, toads, and birds. With their help and protection, pesticides are hardly needed to protect the plants from pests.
